United States Senator Bill Nelson
716 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Nelson:
With the recently released report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change we have been given a wake up call. The scientific evidence of the human contribution to global warming is overwhelming and irrefutable. The impact of rising sea levels on our nation and Florida in particular is truly devastating.
My family would appreciate knowing what your position is on placing mandatory caps on greenhouse gas emissions and urgently shifting to alternative energy solutions. Voluntary limits on CO2 emissions haven't worked. Neither has letting the marketplace dictate options in solar, wind, and renewable energy sources.
We need a major federal initiative, similar to putting a man on the moon, to support and fast-track alternative solutions. With an 18-20' rise in sea levels, which would occur if even half of the Greenland and Antarctic ice fields melt, most of southern Florida would be under water. We will do everything possible to conserve energy at home, but our environmental security is going to depend on bold policy changes if we are to save Florida. Please let us know what you are doing about this urgent issue.
I look forward to your response. Sincerely,
